Good Questions, Real Answers

FAQ

Booking a DJ shouldn't feel like a guessing game. Here's what couples, planners, and corporate clients ask us most — answered straight.

Booking & Availability

How far in advance should we book?

Most people start inquiring six to twelve months out. Peak Gulf Coast dates — spring and fall Saturdays, holiday weekends — tend to go first.

That said, don't count yourself out because your timeline is tight. Reach out anyway. If we can do your event justice, we'll tell you. If we can't, we'll say that too.

How do we check availability and get a quote?

Send your date, venue, and a sense of what you're planning through the contact form. We'll follow up personally with availability and information built around your actual event — not a generic rate card. Peak-season weekends can take a few days, so if your date is close, call or text and we'll move it up.

Everything after that runs through HoneyBook, so your proposal, contract, and payments all live in one place.

What secures our date?

A signed agreement and a 25% retainer. Until both are in, the date stays open — we can't hold it on a handshake, as much as we'd like to.

The remaining balance is due one month before your event. Payments can be made online through HoneyBook, or electronically via Zelle or Venmo.

What happens if we have to cancel?

Straight answer: the retainer isn't refundable. It reserves your date, which means turning away every other inquiry for it, and that time doesn't come back.

If a cancellation comes less than six months out, the second payment is still due — by that point the planning hours are already spent and the date is too close to rebook. Your signed agreement is the authority on all of this; ask us before you sign rather than after.

What if we need to postpone instead?

Postponing is different from canceling, and we treat it that way. Your contracted services carry over to a new date, provided we're available for it.

Work pauses when you let us know, and we'll rebuild the payment schedule once you've settled on the new date.

Will we meet the DJ who's actually working our event?

Yes. You'll know exactly who's behind the booth well before the day, and you'll work with them directly through planning. Nobody gets a surprise substitute the week of.

The Music

Do you mix live, or just hit play on a playlist?

We mix. Live. When it counts.

Cocktail hour and dinner can be a different story — if you'd rather we run your own playlist while people are eating, that's a completely reasonable ask and we'll do it.

But once that floor opens, we're mixing in real time. A pre-built playlist can't tell that the dance floor is heating up faster than you expected, or that Grandma needs three more songs before she'll commit.

Can we give you a must-play list? What about a do-not-play list?

Both, please. Honestly, the do-not-play list is often more useful — knowing what makes you cringe tells us as much as knowing what you love.

We use Vibo, a planning app built for exactly this. You'll build your lists, organize songs by moment, and connect Spotify or Apple Music. Then we'll actually talk it through together.

What genres do you play?

Open format, genuinely. Top 40, hip-hop, R&B, house and dance, funk and soul, classic rock, country, Latin, and throwbacks across every decade.

After 20+ years working weddings, corporate rooms, and nightlife across the US, moving between all of that inside a single set is just the job.

Will you take requests from our guests?

Entirely your call, and we'll set the rule before the day so nobody's making that decision in the moment. Open floor, everything routed through you, or open floor with a short list of exceptions — all three are normal.

What if we want a song you don't have?

Send it over. If it exists, we'll get it. Special edits, a particular remix, a recording of your dad singing — get it to us early so we can test it properly. (We've done the dad-singing one. It went over well.)

Do you MC and handle announcements?

We do, but our job on the mic is to say what needs saying, exactly when it needs saying, and then get out of the way and keep the night moving. If you've got a planner or coordinator, we run off their timeline and stay in our lane.

The Day Of

Do you carry backup equipment?

Yes — genuinely redundant, not "there's a spare cable in the car." Backup cords, audio devices loaded with a streaming library, spare speakers, spare lights, and spare mics. Gear fails sometimes. That should never become your problem on your wedding day.

What happens if something keeps our DJ from making it?

Two decades in this market means we plan for the day sideways, and we know nearly every reputable DJ on the Gulf Coast personally.

If something genuinely unavoidable happens, our contract commits us to securing a qualified professional replacement — with your approval, at no additional cost to you. They'd step in with your Vibo lists and full timeline already in hand.

How long does setup and breakdown take? Is it billable?

Roughly 60 to 90 minutes each way, depending on the room and how far we're hauling gear. We arrive one to two hours before your start time to set up and run a full soundcheck. You're billed for the block of time we mutually agree on — not for setup or breakdown.

Can we extend the night if things are going well?

Usually, yes — as long as your venue allows it. Overtime runs $150 per hour, confirmed with you before the clock starts. It never shows up as a surprise on an invoice afterward.

Do you carry liability insurance?

Yes, we carry a general liability policy and can produce a certificate of insurance if your venue requests one. Some venues also want to be named as additionally insured — send us the requirements and we'll handle the paperwork. Corporate clients: we've got your W-9 ready too.

Can you handle outdoor events?

We're on the Gulf Coast — outdoor is half of what we do. Beach ceremonies, waterfront receptions, courtyard parties. Before the day we'll sort out power access, cover for the gear, and a weather plan. Florida weather has opinions.

What will you wear?

Tell us the dress code and we'll meet it. If you want us coordinated to your palette, just ask.

Where We Work

What areas do you serve?

Pensacola and Pensacola Beach, Destin and Fort Walton Beach, Perdido and Navarre, Santa Rosa Beach and 30A, and across Alabama. We also work in the Greater Los Angeles County area regularly.

Do you travel for destination events?

We do — domestically and internationally. We've taken the setup as far as Hawaii and Costa Rica.

Anything more than 125 miles from Pensacola counts as a destination event, quoted as its own clear line item: round-trip airfare, lodging, and a rental car. You're welcome to book the travel yourself to our specs, or we'll arrange it and invoice it.

Do you bring your own gear to destination events?

Depends where we're headed. Sometimes we travel with it; sometimes it's smarter to source a vetted local rig and bring our own controllers and microphones. We'll tell you which and why, and we build in a full soundcheck window before anyone arrives.

What does it cost?

Every event is quoted individually. Bookings range from around $900 up to $7,500 depending on coverage, venue, and production. Send us your date and the shape of what you're planning, and we'll get you a real number.
